These children represent a wide range of racial and ethnic backgrounds who are placed in LUK Foster Homes due to abuse and neglect, physical and sexual abuse, as well as current family crisis. These children are faced with challenges that include emotional, behavioral, developmental and medical challenges, as well as teenage moms who need support and guidance.

In addition, each child placed in your home will be provided a LUK Case Manager. The Case Manager’s role is to provide intensive in home case management to assist the foster home and child in meeting specific needs and goals.

The mission of the Department of Youth Services (DYS) Foster Care Program is to provide an intensive level of services to youth whose behaviors and/or family situation are such that they warrant a safe and structured living experience which will facilitate a safe reintegration of origin or timely placement to a less restrictive environment (independent living).

The purpose of this program is to prevent any further placements in the DYS facility and to facilitate the reunification of the youth with his/her family of origin or placement in the community to live independently. This is to be achieved by the availability of a creative, flexible and adaptive treatment setting that provides maximum structure, safety and stability in the least restrictive manner possible. Key elements of this treatment setting involve safety, predictability, familiarity and containment. In addition to the primary program components of the foster care home, the DYS foster care program will provide supplemental services consisting network liaison. These secondary program components include 24 hour agency on-call teams, crisis management, and provision of medication, HIV/AIDS education, recreation/leisure time activities, and transportation.
